  Visited this afternoon to send an A4 flat envelope and asked for what I knew as “recorded delivery”. I was initially quoted £9.95, which seemed high, so I queried it. I was told that “recorded delivery” no longer exists and hasn’t for a long time. I explained I had sent similar items recently from other post offices for around £5–£6 (first class), but was told it was a “large letter” and that it didn’t fit their sizing gauge. When I asked what other options were available, I was told only second class at a different price, I begrudgingly paid the £9.95 and left. Once outside, I checked Royal Mail pricing and saw “signed for” services, which appeared to match what I was trying to send. I went back in to clarify. At that point it was acknowledged that “signed for” was a service, but the interaction felt quite dismissive and unhelpful in terms of explaining options clearly or helping match the right product to what I was asking for. I made it clear, I felt it was bad that he knew what I was implying, but carried on dismissing my concern over the price, as if I was wrong to question it. I asked for a refund, collected my letter, and went to Oldland Common Post Office instead. There, the staff were very helpful, clearly explained that “recorded delivery” is now essentially “signed for”, and processed it for £5.80. They also clarified the sizing rules in a simple, easy-to-understand way, which made the whole process much clearer - she said that the sizing rules for a letter only applied to special delivery. Overall, I left feeling that the service and guidance at Keynsham could have been more patient and informative, especially when customers are trying to understand updated terminology and options. It left me with the perception that I’d been charged the higher price, without actually listening to me and mentioning the correct rage of postage options. Based on this experience, I won’t be returning to that branch.
